Sandy Piusa
This is the sand that refuses to wash out from pockets and sneakers even after a month – that is the side effect of fooling and wallowing in the beautiful Piusa sand mine. Wonderful scene for photos! I had completely forgotten how exciting it was to run around there and butt-slide down the sand walls.
The mine and the caves were used as source for glass sand after the quality sand was discovered in 1920. Have a look at the official web site of Piusa for more history and details. The location is about an hour drive from Tartu (satellite photo of the Piusa mine).
