I have earlier expressed my opinion on Club Angel advertising itselt as a gay club, but now I have more reason to be disturbed.
Me, Margus and some of our friends went to the club to celebrate my birthday. Besides the incidents I will talk about, we had great time at the club.
As I heard later from guys, there had been a group taunting at the bar, that from walking it to the club, all they see around are faggots. After such taunting had continue for a while, bartender had told to the people that such comments are not tolerated in the club. It would have been appropriate for a gay club security to show such people out from the club, but as seems, the security was occupied with some other obligations.
As I also heard, security guy had separated two guys kissing each other. I was rather confused by that. Some weeks ago there was a local news published that couple gay guys who had supposably kissed at e restaurant, had rudely been thrown out of the restaurant. The owner herself supported such action saying that it was a public place. OK, I get it – no kissing in the public places. Then why on earth was not the couple thrown out, who was kissing an feeling each other up for 3 minutes on my back at the line of a grocery store? Why is a guy on the street allowed to shove his fingers up and around under miniskirt of a girl? Well, ok, I understand, that it is the faggots who aren’t allowed to express affection in public. But back to the point – two guys kissing at a club, which is advertising itself as a gay club, are separated by a security guy hired by the club. I would expect a guy telling two guys to stop kissing to be thrown out of the club by security, but in this case, it was the security!
And here is the incident that disturbed me the most. As said, we were having lots of fun, threw shirts off, had some drinks and danced wildly. While enjoying my dance partner, I had slid hands down his pants, when security guy came tapped me on my shoulder, pointed on my hand ordering to stop it. I have never seen the security guy interfering when girls are trying to feel up and are harassing gay guys in the club. Yet, as soon as anything homoerotic is in sight, the security is right there to stop the immorality.
Homepage of the club the atmosphere is described as ‘You do not need to restrain yourself in Angel; in fact, it would be impossible to restrain yourself in here. ‘ Based on my experience I say it is very hypocritical as is advertising the club as a gay club. I think the club management needs to take time to think who they want to have as their clients, advertise the club accordingly, and ask themselves what they have done for the clientèle.
For all who are googling for information on a gay club Angel in Tallinn (Estonia), I hope this gives You some idea of what to expect and what to not expect from the gay life in Tallinn. One can still have great time in the club, but if until now I had considered Angel to be most gay tolerant (not a gay club) club in Tallinn, then now I have reason to describe the club as moderately homophobic place.
